The ensuing explosions indicated the vehicle was heavily armed.
An American drone struck a vehicle carrying at least one Islamic State suicide bomber heading for the Kabul airport. The strike on Sunday caused “significant secondary explosions” indicating the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material in the vehicle.
State Department officials had earlier warned all Americans to leave the vicinity of the airport gates as another terror strike was “imminent.” The latest attack by an “over-the-horizon” drone is no assurance that the threat is over, they said.
The attack comes as the United States winds down its historic airlift that has seen over one hundred thousand people evacuated from Kabul’s international airport. U.S. military cargo planes continued their runs into Sunday ahead of the Tuesday deadline. However, Americans remaining behind in the country worry about the Taliban reverting to their earlier oppressive rule.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Americans on the ground in Afghanistan still looking for a way to get out.
- For the safety of the American military as they complete their mission.
- For America’s civilian and military leadership to make wise decisions in the remaining hours of the evacuations.
